Believe in Yourself... You Know Best!

Have you ever found the perfect investment property, only to tell your family or friends about it and have them respond with, “What do you mean you are going to mortgage the family home?”, “Oh no, don’t do that- it looks terrible”, or “Why get more debt? You haven’t even paid off your house yet!” Remind you of any feedback you’ve received?

Do you remember how your newfound excitement and confidence slowly waxed and waned as doubt set in, followed closely by fear topped up with some hopelessness? Well unfortunately if that happened the score was ‘helpful relative’ = 1, you = 0. They won fair and square and did you out of what could have been an amazing opportunity for capital growth, long term security and a step in the direction of being financially independent.

Or did they? Was it them that did you out of that rosy future and ruined your illustrious property investing career?? Well no, actually…..YOU did that all by yourself…….

You see, you were the one who allowed their opinion to shake your confidence, you were the one who allowed their un-educated response to undermine all those hours of real estate research you had done, and you were the one who was more concerned with what they thought of you, rather than with the success of your own future goals.

So why do we let all that happen?? Why are we so easily swayed by someone else’s opinion- even when they are just plain wrong??

Well it comes down to some basic truths about us. Pointing the finger at oneself is generally the last place we would like to point it, but it is the most revealing. You see, you need to be asking yourself why when it comes to the crunch do you prefer people to approve of you, rather than attain all your dreams?

The reason why is that your own deep-seated insecurities (whether you are aware of them or not) need other people to reassure you that you are ok. This internal, often subconscious, emotional need is actually much stronger than our conscious desires for certain life goals.

You may think that you have it all mapped out and that you are moving swiftly towards your ideal future. However, you need to know that we are all actually run by our underlying emotional needs, and if those are playing out without your knowing, you will find yourself sabotaging your success time and time again.

That may come in the form of believing the fear that tells you it’s too scary to even start investing. Or maybe the doubt that whispers that only other people can be successful. Or maybe the low self-esteem that allows someone else’s opinion to shake your certainty.

Whatever the symptoms…..YOU are the cure!

This means first of all that you need to become aware of those parts of you that are in your way of achieving all your property goals, and learn how to heal their insecurities. Then you need to bring out all those other capable, confident, centred parts of you that can achieve it all easily, and will not be swayed off course by some grumpy friend or bank manager!

Once you deal with your fears and insecurities, adjust your mindset and access your potential, then the world really is your oyster and limited only by your imagination.
